Our History

The Grand Theater of Rocky Ford has served the community for over a century, standing as a cornerstone of local entertainment and tradition.

The building first opened in 1901 as the Grand Opera House on Main Street in Rocky Ford. By 1926, it had transitioned into showing motion pictures, quickly becoming a popular gathering place for the community.

After a devastating fire caused significant damage, the structure was rebuilt in 1935 and reopened as the Grand Theater. It continued to operate for decades before closing in 1985 due to declining attendance.

In 1990, a group of dedicated local residents presented a plan to the city council to revive the theater. With the city’s support, the building was purchased from the United Artists chain and restored. The Grand Theater officially reopened on April 28, 1990.

Since its reopening, the Grand Theater has remained a place where families and friends gather to enjoy films, community events, and occasional live entertainment.

Today, the Grand Theater stands as both a historic landmark and a symbol of Rocky Ford’s enduring spirit. Our mission is to provide family-friendly entertainment while preserving the charm and tradition of a classic American theater.
